Case Study:
Out with the old...In with the new
Client
A leading service company..
Problem
Their aging Service Call Management system was failing and unsupported. Thousands of client records were in jeopardy of being lost and labor cost for data entry were prohibitive.
Our Solution
Using an integrated solution involving IT services and software development, the old system was replaced with current technologies while preserving all of the old data by automatically migrating it to a new database.
- Site Survey. A site survey was done to first asses the problem and discuss solutions with the client.
- Project Management. A new project was initiated and all the required resources were identified. A software solution would be required and rapid development methods would be used to lower cost.
- Research. Before any expenses were committed research was performed to find data extraction tools to remove all customer data from the old system and move it into the proposed database. Tools were identified from a New Zealand source and project continued.
- Hardware Provisioning. New equipment was selected according to needs by BTS, and purchased by customer directly from vendor.
- Software development. New client/server based system implemented utilizing Microsoft Office tools and standard open standards database tools. Customer data is no longer locked into proprietary system and rapid development tools lowered cost.
- Server Services. BTS deployed new system on server and set up the system with all needed backup, anti-virus, and update protection.
- End User Services. All client systems were connected to new Service Call Management system and users were trained on how to use new system efficiently. Users can also request service directly from BTS via our on line help desk and remote support tools are used to monitor server health.
Results
By engaging Blue Technology Services to rescue their ailing system, the client was able to save thousands on data entry cost and support costs. The software development cost were less expensive than an off-the-shelf replacement and all customer data (priceless) was migrated to the new system
